As an industry association, Danish Maritime is the collective point for Danish manufacturers of maritime equipment, technology, services and ships. One of Danish Maritime’s most important tasks is to contribute to the continuous success and global competitiveness of the Danish maritime industry by promoting favourable conditions for the Danish maritime industry.

Danish Maritime initiates cooperation between its member businesses in a variety of areas. It is a centre of knowledge, furnishing its members, public authorities and the media with the latest relevant information on the maritime sector. The association brings together member businesses in a meaningful network, and the association enables and ensures cooperation with other parts of the Danish as well as international maritime clusters.  Danish Maritime is a recognized political player and consulting partner within maritime affairs. We have strong cooperation with Danish and European politicians and we participate in several IMO committees. In general, Danish maritime manufacturers offer very environmentally and climate friendly solutions, and in many cases the products and solutions do not only meet with the applied legislation; often they are even a step ahead to be ready for future demands. It is important to have ambitious standards in environmental and climate issues. However, it is also important that the rules and legislation that apply are the same for everyone, as the maritime industry is global and compete globally. Danish Maritime is aiming for high international standards – i.e. by participating as a delegate at IMO meetings and by playing an important and active role in relation to the authorities and decision-makers nationally and internationally. The Association also has a permanent representation office in Brussels.

Danish Maritime was founded in 1919 under the name Jærnskibs- og Maskinbyggerier i Danmark (Iron Shipbuilding and Engine Manufacturing in Denmark) and was later renamed Skibsværftsforeningen (The Association of Danish Shipyards). In 2003, it changed into Danish Maritime now forming an industry association for the entire Danish maritime industry.
