On 4th-8th December 2023 a delegation of representatives from the Ministry of Transportation and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs & Investment, Republic of Indonesia, paid a visit to Denmark. The delegation was headed by Mr Tri Cahahyadi, Head of Centre for Sustainable Transport Management in the transport ministry and included experts and analysts from several other departments.

The visit was arranged by the Royal Danish Embassy in Jakarta and is a part of the bilateral strategic sector cooperation which is currently being planned. On 7 December the delegation paid a visit to Svendborg International Maritime Academy (SIMAC) where President Jesper Bernhardt introduced the guests to the new premises of SIMAC, centrally located on the waterfront. Mr Bernhardt briefed about the impact of new maritime technology and climate friendly fuels on maritime training – and noted that the training of seafarers and other categories of staff in the maritime industry needs to adjust their skills accordingly. Head of Training Mr Jeppe Carstensen provided insight into the online courses and training offered by SIMAC. In the subsequent discussion focus was on opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the field of training for new energy efficient maritime solutions.

Director of International Affairs in industry association Bjarke Wiehe Bøtcher presented the strongholds of the Danish maritime industry and opportunities for cooperation with Indonesia, and mentioned that the building of energy efficient ferries and upgrade of shipyards could be among the options. During their visit to Denmark, the Indonesian delegation has also visited a series of Danish providers with competence in energy efficient maritime technologies.
